PENSACOLA, Fla. –
The UWF Men's Basketball Team finishes their regular season this weekend as they host Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama at the UWF Field House on Thursday and Saturday.

Tip-off against the Chargers on Thursday night is set for 7:30 PM while Saturday's contest against the Tigers will be at 4:00 PM.

UWF, (7-19, 5-17 in the Gulf South Conference) has lost three straight games, with the last two coming in the road in close games to Auburn Montgomery and Montevallo.  Xavier Washington recorded another double-double on Thursday against AUM with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Le'Tarion White added 22 points of his own.  On Saturday, UWF knocked down a season-high 13 pointers as Eli Brown led the way with 21 points on 7-12 from the outside, while Washington, White and Kupstas added double-figures in scoring as well.

West Florida is averaging 73.1 points on 42 percent shooting for the season, while they are allowing 79 points per contest on 46 percent shooting.  Washington leads the team in points per game (13.8), total minutes (736), minutes per game (28.3), field goals made (115), free throws made (112), free throw attempts (161), total rebounds (194) and rebounds per contest (7.5).

Tautvydas Kupstas has been sharp from the outside all season long as he leads the team in three-pointers made (57) and three-point field-goal percentage (.377).  He is also second on the team in scoring at 11.7 points per contest.  Sterling White III leads the Argos in assists (109) and assists per game (4.2).

Looking At The Record Book: Washington is currently in eighth place in school history for free-throw attempts in a single-season and needs just twelve more to move into the top seven. Additionally, one more made free-throw would put him into the top-10 of the single-season category.  Kupstas is two-made three-point field goals away from breaking into the top-10 of that single-season list, with the guard needing just eight across his final two games to move into the top-five.

White III currently leads all of Division III in assist-to-turnover ratio at 4.19.  Garrision Keesler of Walsh (4.11) and Trevor Smith of Grand Valley State (3.62), round out the top three.

Weekend Promotions: Thursday is Apartment Day, while Saturday is Senior/Military Day.  UWF will recognize the contributions of three seniors: Kupstas, Michael Maumbe and Channick Nkoma.

Scouting Alabama Huntsville: The Chargers come into the final weekend of the regular season at 17-9 and 15-7 in the Gulf South Conference.  Luke Burnett and Tommy Murr have stood out offensively for coach John Shulman, as the duo is eighth and ninth in the league in scoring at 15.9 and 15.8 points per game, respectively. UAH has major firepower on offense as they are third in the GSC in scoring at 79.9 points per contest at a 48 percent shooting mark.  Jack Kostel leads the way with a team-high 111 assists and 41 steals.

Series History: UAH leads the all-time series, 42-17, with 16 of those wins coming in Pensacola.  The Argos used a 50-point second half back in January to beat the Chargers, 83-72, which was the first time UWF had won in Huntsville in nearly 20 years.

Scouting West Alabama: UWA is a game behind UAH in the GSC standings at 17-9 and 14-8 in league action. The Tigers struggle offensively as they sit in 12th in scoring, while they are masterful defensively, holding opponents to a league-low 63.4 points per game.

Four Tigers average double-figures in scoring, with Jaylen Lemons leading the pack with an average of 14.3 points per contest.  UWA dominates on the glass as well with three players averaging more than five boards a game, headlined by CJ Melton who has seven per contest.

Series History: Dating back to 2001, UWA holds a 21-17 advantage in the all-time series.  UWF holds a 9-7 record in Pensacola, but West Alabama has won the last six games in the series. West Florida last beat the Tigers on January 25, 2020.
