PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Florida women's tennis (2-1, 2-0 GSC) heads to the Lone Star State to play in the GSC/Lonestar Crossover Tournament hosted by UT Tyler.
The Argos go into the event having just played and won their first two games of the conference slate against Lee and Mississippi College. A tough weekend against three opponents from the Lone Star Conference awaits before they dive back into GSC matchups next week.
The first game is against host UT Tyler (1-4), on Friday, March 1, at 10 am. The Patriots are coached by Chris Bizot, now in the second season of his second stint in charge of the program. This is only the teams' second meeting, the first of which came in March 2020 in Pensacola and ended in a 7-0 sweep for UWF.
On Saturday, March 2, at 10 am, the Argos face off against Cameron, the No. 9 team in the country, on the campus of Tyler Junior College. The contest will be just the Aggies' second of 2024 after they take on Auburn Montgomery on Friday as they begin their eighth season under head coach Josh Cobble. UWF has won all four of its meetings with the Aggies, the latest of which was a 4-2 win in 2019 in another neutral-site contest at San Antonio, Texas.
In wrapping up the weekend, UWF plays Midwestern State (2-0) back at UT Tyler on Sunday, March 3, at 1:30 pm. The Mustangs are beginning their 14th season coached by Scott Linn. UWF owns the all-time series with MSU by a 4-0 margin as well, with the last meeting coming in the same event in which the Argos last played Cameron. That contest with the Mustangs ended in a hard-fought 4-3 win. Diana Vlad provided the winning point with a clutch 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles over Juliette Mary.
