GULF SHORES, ALA. – Day two of the Gulf Shores invitational was a tough one for UWF Softball (1-3), as the Argonauts fell to the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps 10-4 and dropped a five-inning run-rule to No. 5 Nova Southeastern 8-0.Â
Â
Madelyn Vasquez was the bright spot on the day for the Argos, adding three hits, a run, and an RBI to her weekend total against Lubbock Christian.
Hannah Harper,
Emma Brice, and
Jessica Ford added runs to the UWF effort on Saturday.

Â
Montana Young got the start in the circle for UWF but the Lady Chaps were able to capitalize off some early pitching miscues to go up early. A Riley Flores RBI single and a Bella Hughes three-run homer put the Lady Chaps up 4-0 early over the Argos.Â
Â
UWF would respond with an RBI single from Vasquez that scored Brice in the bottom of the first; however, LCU would add two runs a piece in the second and third innings to go up 8-1.Â
Â
Brianna Jennings recorded a sacrifice RBI to score
Hannah Harper and bring
Jessie Baughan and
Maddie Treutlein into scoring position, but UWF wouldn't be able to capitalize, and the score would stay at 8-2 until the sixth inning.Â
Â
LCU scored a 2-RBI double in the sixth to drive the lead to 10-2. Baughan would reach on a fielder's choice scoring Vasquez, and Brice would earn a sacrifice RBI scoring Ford in the seventh. The 10-4 total would be the final score as a ground out would finish the game.Â

Â
Early pitching struggles and a couple fielding errors for UWF would prove to be the difference in an otherwise solid defensive effort the rest of the game. The bottom of the first inning saw five walks and a couple wild pitches that advanced multiple NSU runners for scores. Two fielding errors later in the half-inning gave the Sharks their seventh and eighth runs of the game before UWF closed the frame.Â
Â
UWF tightened up defensively the rest of the game, allowing only two more runners on base the whole contest. The Argonaut bats didn't have the same success, and only earned a hit through the next three innings.  Baughan was able to reach on a right side single, but UWF grounded out for the final out in the fifth to seal the 8-0 defeat to Nova Southeastern.Â

The Argos are back in Gulf Shores tomorrow for one more game against No. 18 Saint Leo. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 12:30 C.T.
