PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF Men's Basketball Team returns to action after a week off, as they host their only three-game homestand of the season, as they welcome Gulf South Conference foes, Union, Christian Brothers and Auburn Montgomery to the UWF Field House.
Thursday's game against Union is set for 7:30 PM while Saturday's contest against Christian Brothers is slated for 4 PM. Monday's game against the Warhawks is at 7:30 PM.
West Florida (6-14, 4-12 in the GSC) is coming off a tough stretch where they have lost their past three games. As a result, UWF sits in 12
th place in the league standings and is four games out of the eighth seed. The top eight seeds advance to the GSC Tournament.
UWF comes into the weekend, averaging 71.1 points per game offensively while they are seventh in the league in scoring defense at 77 points per contest. The Argonauts are also eighth in field goal percentage defense at 44.8 percent.
Xavier Washington has been a stand-out all season long for the Argos as the forward leads the team in points per game (13.8), rebounds per game (7.3), free throws made (100) and attempts (144). He currently sits in second in the GSC in boards per contest.
Tautvydas Kupstas has been the Argos largest threat from the outside as the guard leads the squad in three-pointers made (44) and percentage (.383).
Sterling White III distributes the ball well with a team-high 73 assists, while his 4.1 assist-to-turnover ratio, leads the conference.
The Race To 80: UWF is 4-1 on the year when the team scores 80 or more points. West Florida has also scored 90 or more points twice, which included a season-high 93 in a victory over then league-leading, Delta State, back in December. The Argonauts also scored 83 in their lone road victory over Alabama Huntsville in early January.
Record Watch: Washington, a forward from Palmetto, Florida, has been getting to the free-throw line a lot this season, averaging 7.2 attempts per contest. If he were to continue to pace, he would finish the season at 202, which would be the fourth most in program history. It would also the be the first time since 2017-18 that an Argonaut recorded more than 180 in a single season. He would also move inside the top four in free throws made if he continued at his pace of five made per contest for the final eight games.
About Union: The Bulldogs come into the match-up at 10-10 and 7-9 in league play, a half-game out of the eighth and final spot. Union is a balanced team as they average 77.9 points per game on 46 percent shooting while they allow opponents to score 77.1 points per contest. Ahmad Johnson is the top scorer for the Bulldogs at 15.4 points per game, while Jordan Pyke and Jeremiah Littlepage are also inside the top-25 scorers in the league at 13.2 and 12.8 points per game, respectively.
Series History: Dating back to 2012, the Argos are 9-9 against the Bulldogs, with Union claiming the last meeting in December, 86-84.
Xavier Washington had 21 points and eight rebounds for UWF.
About Christian Brothers: CBU comes into the match-up at 11-8 overall and 9-7 in the GSC, as they sit in sixth place. The Bucs are sixth in the conference in scoring at 78.2 points per game while they are stingy on defense with 72.2 points per game by the opposition. Anias Futrell is one to watch for CBU offensively as he is third in the league in scoring at 18.5 points per game. Jailen Anderson sits just outside the top-10 in points per game, with 15.2.
Series History: UWF is 6-16 against CBU since 2012, but the Argos are 3-1 in the last four meetings in Pensacola.

About AUM: The Warhawks are currently 9-11 and 6-10 in GSC play. Auburn Montgomery, sitting in 10
th place in the GSC, is averaging 75.9 points per game while their 78 points per game is third worst in the GSC. Travis Anderson leads the way offensively with 14.1 points per contest while Malachi Rhodes is fifth in the league in rebounding, at 6.9 per contest. Jelal Williams averages over one block per contest.
Series History: Dating back to 2005, UWF is 10-7 against the Warhawks.
Wendell Matthews had 18 points over the Warhawks in February 2022, the last time UWF beat AUM.
