MONTEVALLO, Ala. - UWF men's tennis (5-4, 2-1 GSC) achieved its first winning record of the 2024 season overall and in the conference slate with a 6-1 win over Montevallo (4-4, 2-1 GSC) on Saturday morning at the Falcons' Tennis Court Complex.
The No. 10 Argos got off to a hot start over the No. 37 team in the latest ITA national poll in doubles as team No. 1,
Denilso Martinez and
Diego Duran, and team No. 3,
Albin Ekenros and
Joaquin Estevez, each won their matchup 6-1.
Sebastian Rondon and
Bernardo Costa finished off the doubles sweep at No. 2 with a 6-4 win over Philippe Zehender and Leonidas Lazarides.
UWF didn't stop there, as it continued pouring it on the Falcons in singles.
Sebastian Sotelo won 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 matchup and Rondon took a pair of 6-1 sets to win at No. 2.
Mateo Martinez then claimed a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Sam Parsons at No. 6 to clinch the result for his team. Duran, in his first playing time since the Argos' last GSC match at Mississippi College, defeated Samuel Maia 6-2, 6-2. Ekenros finished it off with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Simon Luigs. The lone point for Montevallo came in the No. 1 matchup, as Costa had to retire from his matchup with Leonidas Lazarides in the third frame.
The Argos will play their final match of this road stretch at West Alabama tomorrow at 10 am.
