Argos with Another Three-Game Span After Three 2-1 Stretches

PENSACOLA, Fla. - UWF women's tennis (6-3, 4-1 GSC) steps out of conference play this upcoming week as it returns to the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex from three straight road conference matches. The Argos are up to No. 12 in the nation after starting last week five spots below and winning a pair of 5-2 matches over West Georgia and Montevallo before losing 6-1 to No. 11 West Alabama.

On Saturday, March 16, the Argos host Xavier (La.) (9-2) of the NAIA's Red River Athletic Conference at 1 pm. The Gold Nuggets are led by Alan Green, who is in his 21st season in charge of the tennis programs and is the most successful coach in the history of the New Orleans institution. In an almost annual out-of-conference matchup in Pensacola since 2015, the Argos lead the series 5-2. The two teams have played each of the last three seasons, with each match ending in a 6-1 UWF win. XULA won the previous two matches after UWF won the first two games in 2015 and 2017 by 9-0 scores.

After a break on Sunday, the Argos return to play the next day at 1 pm against D3 squad Johns Hopkins (7-3, 2-0 Centennial Conference) in a first-time meeting between the sides. Dan Pollock is in his third season in charge of the women's program in Baltimore. He previously coached at five D1 schools and most recently worked as the associate head women's coach at the University of Maryland.

After these morning matches, UWF heads back to the courts on Wednesday, March 20, at 10 am to take on Henderson State (8-5) of the Great American Conference. The Reddies are led by third-year head coach Annabel Harvey, who came to Arkadelphia, Ark., after a decorated playing career at conference rival Arkansas Tech. This will be the first time the Argos have played the Reddies since 2008, the last of three straight seasons in which the teams played in the GSC Championship when HSU was a member. UWF swept all three meetings by 5-0 scores.
