PENSACOLA, Fla. - No. 12 UWF women's tennis (7-3) responded to its first GSC setback of the season with a gritty out-of-conference win back at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex over NAIA power Xavier (La.) (9-3) on Saturday afternoon.

Carlota Verdu and
Luiza Daud got the day started off with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles over Amira Bergaoui and Valentina Largacha. The match became tied as No. 3 pair
Aline Midori Da Silva and
Guadalupe Martinez suffered just their third loss this season and first since the Cameron match in Texas in a 6-3 loss to Kyra Akinnibi and Kareemah Muhammad. The Argos took the early 1-0 lead as
Giuliana Sacco and
Jenna Svatos clinched doubles with a 6-4 win over Mbali Langa and McKenna Wheatley.Â

Verdu finished off a 2-0 day as she dispatched Langa at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-0 before the Gold Nuggets got within one as Largacha topped Svatos 7-5, 6-4. The Argos got that point back at No. 6 as
Catharina Schoch, in her first time in the lineup with the Blue and Green, nabbed a crucial win over Sydney Green 6-1, 7-5. More tense moments ensued as Wheatley defeated Daud and Akinnibi took down Martinez at Nos. 4 and 3, respectively, each in three sets. However, before Martinez's match finished, Midori Da Silva put the match to bed with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Bergaoui.Â

The Argos stay home for their next match against first-time opponent Johns Hopkins on Monday with first serve again at 1 pm.Â
