PENSACOLA, Fla. – Brooke Kane poured in a game-high 20 points as she joined the other six UWF women's basketball seniors to combine for 65 points in a 74-52 win over West Alabama on Senior Day at the UWF Field House Saturday.
Kane's performance was her fourth 20-point game of the season as she eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career late in the first half. She now has 1,011 points from her time at New Hampshire and UWF. She also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Moriah Taylor had another strong game running the offense, as she registered 13 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Claire Sutherland-Case was the third Argonaut in double figures, adding 10 points, five rebounds and three blocked shots.
UWF (16-12, 13-11 Gulf South) made 10 3-pointers for the second-consecutive game and shot 48 percent overall. The Argos controlled the glass with a 43-33 rebounding margin.
"After clinching (a spot in the GSC tournament) on Thursday, we talked about trying to build momentum going into the playoffs and I think we had a lot of players step up and show they don't want to stop playing," said UWF head coach
Stephanie Lawrence Yelton.
UWA (6-22, 5-19) shot just 28 percent and was 3-for-17 from outside. Kamille Clark led the Tigers with 17 points.
UWF finished fifth in the GSC regular-season and will open the league tourney on the road on Tuesday. The Argos will travel to Auburn Montgomery (19-9, 17-7) for the quarterfinal match-up. The game will start at 5:30 p.m. at the AUM Gymnasium.
