PENSACOLA, Fla. - No. 15 UWF women's tennis (7-4, 4-1 GSC) travels to Columbus, Ga., to take on three teams from Georgia with a match a day from Thursday, March 21, to Saturday, March 23. The Argos will be making up their February 9 match with Shorter, which was called off due to rainfall in Pensacola, on Thursday before taking on two Peach Belt Conference squads ranked in the top 15 of the latest ITA Team Rankings in host Columbus State and North Georgia.
Â
At 4 pm ET/3 pm CT on Thursday, UWF faces off once again with conference rival Shorter (1-7, 0-5 GSC). The Hawks are led by third-year head coach Juan Pablo Selle. UWF has won all nine of its previous meetings with the Hawks, the last two of which were 7-0 wins in each of the last two seasons. The Argos last lost a point to Shorter in 2021 in a 6-1 win in Rome, Ga., when the former came up short in two of the three doubles matches.
Â
UWF then steps out of conference play to take on No. 13 Columbus State (8-5, 1-0 PBC) in a true road match on Friday at 1 pm ET/12 pm CT. The Lady Cougars are coached by Evan Isaacs, a former CSU player who is now in his 25th season as head coach of his alma mater with an all-time overall record of 417-112 and a 183-27 record in conference play, marks comparable to UWF's own
Derrick Racine. This match will be the 13th meeting between the programs in their history. CSU leads the series 8-4, but the Argos won the previous matchup last season, claiming a tight match 4-3 as
Carlota Verdu took the clinching singles match 7-5, 5-7, 6-1.Â
Â
The Argos wrap up their stay in Columbus on Saturday at 1 pm ET/12 pm ET against No. 6 North Georgia (11-0). The latter's 11 wins include nine against opponents from the South and Southeast Regions, including a 4-3 win over current No. 10-ranked Auburn Montgomery, and they'll look for their 10th such win and 12th overall against UWF. UNG is also led by an alum of its program, Kent Norsworthy, now in his 19th season as head coach. The two teams have met only three times previously, with the Nighthawks getting their first win over UWF by a 4-3 score last season in Pensacola. UWF won the first two matchups: a 5-2 result in Valdosta, Ga., in 2021 and a 5-1 win in the Round of 16 of the 2018 NCAA DII Tennis Championship in Surprise, Ariz. Â
