UWF Heads to Georgia with Win Over Henderson State

PENSACOLA, Fla. - No. 15 UWF women's tennis (8-4, 4-1 GSC) defeated Henderson State (9-6) 5-2 at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Wednesday morning.

The Argos got off to a blazing start with a clean sweep in doubles. At the top of the lineup, Giuliana Sacco and Jenna Svatos won their third doubles matchup in as many matches with a 6-3 defeat of Mulan Kamoe and Kristina Kozlova. Carlota Verdu and Luiza Daud won by that same score at No. 2 over Angela Georgieva and Jenna Bohnert. Guadalupe Martinez and Aline Midori Da Silva then got back to their winning ways after setbacks to Xavier (La.) and Johns Hopkins by taking down Haarini Balakrishnan and Tirzah Bailey 6-4.

UWF finished off the visitors in relatively short order, as five singles matchups were settled in two sets. Four of them were won by the home team. The Reddies won the lone match that went to three at No. 6, which went to a super tiebreaker. Martinez defeated Georgieva at No. 3 6-0, 6-2 and Da Silva won at No. 2 over Kozlova 6-2, 6-1. At No. 1, Verdu claimed a 6-0, 6-4 win over Kamoe. Nathalia Mossambani, in her first action since the GSC/Lone Star Crossover, took care of business 6-4, 6-4 over Bohnert at No. 4 to seal this one.

UWF heads to Columbus, Ga., this weekend for its next three matches. The weekend starts with a GSC contest in a makeup match against Shorter on Thursday, March 21, at 4 pm ET/3 pm CT.
