COLUMBUS, Ga. - No. 15 UWF women's tennis (9-5, 5-1 GSC) fought hard but could not overcome No. 6-ranked North Georgia (12-0) in a 5-2 loss at the Walden Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

Jenna Svatos and
Giuliana Sacco fell 6-4 to Angelina Linnikova and Svetlana Teterina at No. 1 doubles while
Guadalupe Martinez and
Aline Midori Da Silva fell behind early, leading to a 6-2 setback at No. 3 to Valentina Ascarrunz and Carolina Reis. The No. 2 matchup with
Carlota Verdu and
Luiza Daud went unfinished due to UNG having already clinched the doubles point.

The Nighthawks built up their advantage even more as Linnikova topped Verdu in a tight matchup at No. 1 singles 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Teterina defeated Svatos at No. 4 6-4, 6-4 while Ascarrunz dispatched
Nathalia Mossambani one court over 6-4, 6-2. Martinez earned the first win for UWF as she came out on top at No. 3 with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win over Ashley Moinard. At No. 6, Daud dropped her first set to Reis before overcoming early deficits in the second and third to force tiebreakers and win her matchup 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 1-0 (10-4). However, the fight from Daud was not enough as Johanna Lippert put it to bed with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Da Silva.

The Argos wrap up the week with a .500 record before they step back into GSC play next week with a home match on March 30 against Valdosta State, currently ranked No. 44 in the latest ITA rankings.Â
