Argos Wrap up GSC/Lone Star Crossover with 2-1 Finish

Argos Improve to 4-4 Heading into Road GSC Contests this Weekend

TYLER, Texas - UWF men's tennis (4-4, 1-1 GSC) played in the GSC/Lone Star Crossover Tournament this past weekend. The No. 7 Argos went 2-1, a much-needed finish to up its record as it restarts GSC play this upcoming weekend.

UWF 2, No. 12 UT Tyler 5

The Argos started the tournament with a tough draw in the nationally ranked and hosting Patriots. UWF fought hard but fell in a pair of tiebreakers in doubles. After dropping those tiebreakers, Sebastian Rondon beat Egor Shestakov 6-4, 6-4 in No. 2 singles and Albin Ekenros won by the same score at No. 4 over Forkane Lebdi, but it was not enough.

UWF 4, Cameron 3

After another doubles setback, the Argos flipped the script of its weekend as Rondon topped Louis Boilevin at No. 1 singles in a pair of 6-2 sets and Denilso Martinez took down Vicente Preto in two 6-4 frames at No. 5. Ekenros then won 6-3, 6-2 over Rhys Edwards at No. 3 before Sebastian Sotelo sealed this one with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Martin Hlavacek at No. 2. The Aggies won the final two singles matchups, but could not overcome the UWF advantage.

UWF 4, Midwestern State 0

UWF wrapped up its weekend in a quick Sunday match against the Mustangs. Tomas Leston and Sotelo swept No. 3 doubles 6-0 before Ekenros and Joaquin Estevez won 6-4 at No. 2 over Killian Guillou and Germano Setti to seal the opening point early.

The Argos kept pouring it on in singles as Ekenros started it off at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Stephen Slocombe. Rondon took down Setti at No. 1 6-1, 6-3 before Sotelo clinched the match at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-2 final score over Guillou to enable the other three singles matchups to go unfinished.

UWF heads into more GSC matches this weekend, starting on Saturday morning at 10 am at Montevallo.
