MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- The University of West Florida baseball team took a 4-1 loss to Montevallo in Friday's series opener on the road.

The Argos (23-15, 14-8 GSC) were unable to come back from a three-run deficit that began in the sixth inning.

After a scoreless four innings, each team grabbed a run each in the fifth to stay at a tie game.
Jadon Fryman sent
Trent Jeffcoat home with an RBI single. Montevallo (22-17, 13-9 GSC) tied it 1-1 with a ground out RBI in the bottom half.

Montevallo scored three runs in the following inning that extended the lead to 4-1. After sending the Argos three up in the top half of the inning, Montevallo snatched their first lead of the game. They hit an RBI single and a two-run homer.

The Argos lone run is all they could bring in after earning no hits to go three up in the last three innings.

Jacob Heath grabbed his first conference series opener start on the mound for UWF. He threw a strikeout in sixth consecutive innings in his six-inning performance. He threw eight total strikeouts. Despite getting the loss, held the Falcons to four hits – three of Falcon hits occurred in the sixth frame alone.

UWF outhit the Falcons 7-5 and were led by Fryman and
Darrien McDowell who tallied two apiece. They both went 2-for-3 at the plate. The Argos left nine on base in comparison to the Falcons six.

The Argos and Falcons will finish the series with a Saturday (Apr. 13) double header starting at noon.
