MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 15 Auburn Montgomery scored four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to come from behind and defeat UWF, 5-3 at the AUM Softball Complex on Friday.
UWF (31-13, 18-7 Gulf South) finished with five hits and saw its 17-game winning streak come to an end.
Five different players had a base hit for the Argos. Jessie Baughan hit her 17th home run of the season – a solo shot in the seventh – and Hannah Harper drove in a pair on an error in the first inning.
Harper (15-9) took the loss after striking out three in six innings. She allowed eight hits and walked four.
UWF got on the scoreboard in the top of the first with a pair of runs. Emma Brice and Madelyn Vasquez reached with a pair of singles and then scored on Harper's ground ball that caromed off the glove of AUM third baseman Chloe Derrick.
The Warhawks pushed a run across in the home half of the first when Haley Ann Frank scored on a Kat Fallen single.
That's the way it stood until the fifth when AUM got a pair of RBI singles to go ahead 3-2. The home team made it 5-2 an inning later on Rebecca Komers' 2-run homer to center.
The Argos threatened in the seventh with Baughan's blast and then had the tying run at the plate before a flyout ended the contest.
AUM (33-9, 20-5) got two hits from Derrick to lead its offense. Alanna Goble (13-3) struck out three and didn't walk anyone in the circle.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
