BOX SCORE 1  | BOX SCORE 2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The University of West Florida softball team swept a double-header from the 15th ranked Auburn Montgomery Warhawks on Saturday afternoon by winning the two games, 6-4 and 15-6, at the AUM Softball Complex.

UWF improves to 34-13 and 20-7 in the Gulf South Conference, moving into a tie for second place in the league with Auburn Montgomery and Alabama Huntsville.  AUM falls to 33-11 and 20-7 in the GSC with the loss.

West Florida, winners of 19 of their last 20 games, scored 21 runs across the two games and secured their 10th run-rule win by virtue of the game two victory.  Montana Young (17-4) and Hannah Harper (16-9), each secured victories in the double-header with Young throwing a complete game in game one, while Harper tossed five complete innings in game two.

UWF caps off their regular season next weekend when they host Lee on Saturday and Sunday at the UWF Softball Complex. Saturday is Bark At The Park while Sunday is senior day, with first pitch at 1 pm.

Game 1: After a scoreless first inning, UWF put up four runs in the top of the second.  With the first three runners of the frame reaching to load the bases, Jessica Ford singled to score Hannah Harper.  Chelsea Dumas followed the RBI single with a three-run triple to give the Argos a 4-0 advantage heading to the third.

Auburn Montgomery tallied three in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to one, before Dumas once again came through with a two-RBI triple to extend the lead back to 6-3.  The score stayed that way until the bottom of the bottom of the seventh as Kat Fallen tallied RBI on a sacrifice fly.  Young would get the final out of the contest by inducing a fly-out by Gia Martin.

Montana Young went the full seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits, with four walks and four strikeouts on 121 pitches to earn her 17th victory of the season.  Five Argonauts grabbed two hits apiece, while Dumas led the way with 5 runs driven in.

Rebecca Komers had two hits to lead the Warhawks while Fallen totaled two RBI's.

Game 2: The Argos flexed their muscle early in game two, tallying seven runs on five hits to earn a 7-0 advantage in the first inning. Erin Moon led the frame off with an RBI single, while Ford tripled the lead with an RBI single, three batters later.

Two batters later, with the Argos holding a 4-0 advantage, Gianna Guerriero delivered a two-out, three-run triple to give the visitors a commanding advantage heading to the second.  After the Warhawks responded with a three-run inning of their own, Emma Brice quickly quieted the crowd with a home run and spearheading a three-run frame for the Argonauts.

West Florida continued their offensive explosion in the top of the third with a home run from Moon, her eighth of the season, and Madelyn Vasquez scoring on a Warhawk error, to make it 14-3.
Vasquez capped off the Argonaut total with a home run in the fifth, her 14th of the year, to put the game at 15-4.  Although AUM put up a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, it was not enough as Hannah Harper induced a ground-out to end the frame and give the Argos a 15-6 victory.

Harper went five innings, allowing six runs on six hits with one walk and one strikeout on 69 pitches.  Moon and Harper had eight of the 19 hits for UWF, while Vasquez crossed the plate a team-high four times.

Molly Cobb and Fallen had two hits to lead AUM, while Fallen had three RBI's to lead the home team.
