PENSACOLA, Fla. - No. 18 UWF women's tennis (9-7, 5-3 GSC) could not overcome an early deficit on Wednesday afternoon at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex and fell 5-2 to No. 10 Auburn Montgomery (13-4, 6-1 GSC), the No. 2 team in the GSC standings.

The Argos took the first doubles set on court two as
Luiza Daud and
Carlota Verdu swept Melissa Yakup Pour and Sofia Neri 6-0. The Warhawks quickly responded with Ana Villalvazo and Nahia Izco defeating
Aline Midori Da Silva and
Guadalupe Martinez 6-4 at No. 3. In another narrow matchup at the top of the lineup, Estefania Garcia and Ane Ibarra, at No. 17 in the latest ITA Doubles Rankings, claimed the doubles point for AUM with a 7-5 win over
Giuliana Sacco and
Zoe Yasan.Â

Ibarra quickly built on her team's lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles over
Manuela Dejean. Da Silva proceeded to put her team on the board with a win at No. 2 by that same score over Pour. Regina Urbiola got the point back by taking the No. 4 matchup 7-5, 6-0 over
Nathalia Mossambani before Garcia, No. 11 in the latest ITA Singles Rankings, came from behind to best Verdu 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Martinez earned her team's second point with a 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 victory over Villalvazo at No. 3, but Izco had already sealed the win for AUM with her 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 5 over Daud.

UWF has now dropped three consecutive matches but can end that streak with wins in their next two, their last ones in Pensacola this regular season. The Argos take on Christian Brothers on Friday at 4 pm before playing Delta State on Saturday at 10 am. The Blue and Green will look to move up from their current spot at No. 5 in the conference standings and improve their seeding for the GSC Championship.Â
