SAINT LEO, Fla. –
Jadon Fryman went 4-for-6 with seven RBI to help UWF to a 17-6 come-from-behind victory over Delta State in an elimination game at the 2024 NCAA Division II South Regional at Thomas B. Southard Field.
Seventh-seeded UWF (34-22) advances into the championship game where they will meet Embry-Riddle Saturday night. The Argonauts will need to win to force an 'if necessary' game on Sunday for the right to advance to the super regional round.
UWF pounded out 16 hits and got home runs from Fryman and
Darrien McDowell. The top three batters in the lineup – Jeffcoat, McDowell and Fryman – went 9-for-17 with 12 RBI and seven runs.
DSU got out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the first on a bases loaded double play.
The game then went into a lightning delay as the Argos came to the plate in the top of the third inning.
UWF erupted with six runs in the fourth. They loaded the bases with an error, hit batter and walk before
Trent Jeffcoat tied it with an RBI single. McDowell followed with a single to left that scored
Parker Tubb and
Brett Rowell. Fryman pushed another run home with a double to put UWF ahead 4-1.
Cade Easterbrook drove in a run on an error and then
Jackson Grabsky laid down a bunt to score Fryman to cap the scoring.
The Statesmen scored a run on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the fourth but then found themselves in an even bigger hole in the fifth when Fryman crushed a grand slam over the fence in left for a 10-2 advantage. It was his second long ball of the weekend and eight of the season.
From there the Argos added six more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth on McDowell's 24th home run of the season – moving him within two of Wingate's Sean Barnett for the NCAA Division II lead.
Dalton Neuschwander improved to 8-4 with six innings of solid mount work. He struck out five while scattering six hits and two runs.
