September Donor of the Month: Kerry Boggs-Lopez

Why do you continue to give annually?

I give to UWF athletics because they helped me get through college, they helped me get settled in, meet amazing people at the time of my college experience, and icing on the cake, we won a title together in 2012 with Women's soccer! Coach Joe Bartlinksi helped me get to UWF and I want to give back and help in some way to UWF, like he helped me. I also like to support women who don't always get the recognition they deserve in the world. Giving back to women through athletics and supporting women's sports is a passion. Usually, I give to women's soccer because that's the closest to my heart, but really I'll support any gender and any UWF athletics team. Any help to pay for college or expenses during college goes a long way so I get the struggle too.

What would you say is the best thing about supporting UWF Athletics?

Getting to help teams and student-athletes in some way to get an experience and education that they may never have been able to do on their own is an answer to prayer for all the grandparents, parents, and students praying to have an opportunity- just being a small part of those answered prayers is nice. You work all year to get one good game, you work all your life to get a better life with better jobs, that's worth it to get that shot and athletics just reiterates that.

What makes you passionate about UWF Athletics?

I love going to a game or even watching through a stream and saying that was a good play. I've watched the World Cup final like 6 times from 2022 - you know a good thing when you see it and it's exciting to be a part of and get to enjoy athletics because you see people's passion and hard work happening right in front of you - you can't see or understand someone's passion and hard work in certain industries (like an office job) unless you are part of it yourself but a sport is done in public - you can see the results.

What makes you passionate about UWF Athletics?

Seeing everyone come together, Argie, the band, the students and fans come together behind a team that's playing whether that's basketball, soccer, or any sport at UWF- They give it their all - that's just great to see everyone have excitement, rallying a team - coming from behind in a game to win it. Shelby, Pete,  and Chelsea in 2012 and 2013 were good at rallying the team on the field and the fans did their part in the stands. I remember we lost to Armstrong Atlantic in the regular season but came back and beat them in the NCAA tournament playoffs.
