Box Score
PENSACOLA, Fla - The University of West Florida Men's Soccer team opened GSC play with a win over Mississippi College, defeating the Choctaws 5-2 after a breakthrough second half. Jaime Guillen lead the Argos with a total of three goals on the evening, scoring a trifecta hat trick of one goal with his head, one with his left foot, and one with his right. More details below.
The First 45
Scoring opened up quickly for the Argos as senior midfielder
Jack Patching beat the Choctaw defender on the sideline, sending a great ball into the back post to find Guillen's head for the back of the net.Â
The Argos held strong and continued to move the ball, but the Choctaws fought back with a tying goal coming in the 18th minute by Lewis Matton from a shot out wide. Just ten minutes before half, the Choctaws found the back of the net again as Denis O. John struck the ball from outside the 18 to put the Choctaws up 2-1 heading into the half.
The Second 45
The Argos came back onto the field ready to take back the win, and did just that. In the 62nd minute, after a scramble and some shots coming from the Argos, a well struck ball found the hand of a Choctaw defender in the box, rewarding a penalty kick.
Marcus Pereira stepped up to the spot, and converted the tying goal of the match to give the Argos the boost that they needed, and it worked. Just two minutes later, the Argos came blazing down the field as
Jack Patching found senior
Keegan Lynch, who connected with Jaime Guillen again for Guillen to bury the ball with his left foot into the back of the net. This goal would be Guillen's second and Patching's second assist on the night.Â
A couple of goals was all the Argos needed to keep the ball rolling. In the 79th minute,
Mar Aegisson fought through a number of Choctaw defenders down the left side of the field, to find
Kendrick Hernandez on the right inside of the 18 yard box, to send the ball into the back of the net. Hernandez earns his first goal of the season, and Aegisson continues to show his attributes in his first year as an Argo.Â
Guillen wasn't finished just yet. With just nine minutes remaining,
Reo Ichikawa worked his way through some Choctaw defenders to find an open ball and pass to the right foot of Jaime Guillen, and the Spainard converted his third goal of the evening. Guillen and the Argos closed on the game with a 5-2 win in their first game of GSC play.Â
