Swinton Scores Two in Opening Season Road Win

MANKATO, Minn. – Mya Swinton found the back of the net two times to lead the University of West Florida to a 3-0 shutout win over Southwest Minnesota State on Friday afternoon.

UWF started the 2024 season in a dominant fashion allowing just three total shots in the game from the host SMSU. The Argos fired off 23 shots and put 16 on frame.

Swinton got the scoring started in the 14th minute. The redshirt senior added her second goal early in the second half off the feed from Julieta Limardo to give UWF the 3-0 lead in the 49th minute.

Junior Megan Gettys was the other goal scorer for the Argos. The forward scored in the 42nd minute with Emma Beltz receiving the assist.

Starting goalkeeper Maciah Lipsey made two saves in 84 minutes of action in net.

UWF (1-0) will play Minnesota State on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both teams head into the match with a 1-0 record. Minnesota State is coming off a 3-0 victory over No. 17 ranked Emporia State.
