PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida football team was well represented in the Gulf South Conference yearly awards with three major award winners and 21 All-Conference selections, which was four more selections than any other team in the GSC.
Marcus Stokes was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Year, coming as no surprise, following a season of league-leading play at the quarterback position. Stokes, one of the top QB's in NCAA Division II led the GSC in every category for quarterbacks. The redshirt sophomore threw for 2,886 yards and 28 touchdowns while completing over 60-percent of his passes. Stokes averaged 288.6 passing yards per game. He also rushed for 288 yards and seven scores. During the season Stokes was named the GSC Offensive Player of the Week four times.
Ja'Kobe Clinton earned GSC Defensive Player of the Year honors for his outstanding season leading the Argo defense. Clinton led the team with 72 total tackles (46 solo & 26 assisted) which was the second highest in the conference. The senior made an impact in the opponent's backfield leading the GSC in tackles for loss (18 for 86 yards lost) and sacks (7). Clinton also forced two fumbles, had a fumble recovery and had six pass break ups.
Head coach
Kaleb Nobles was named the Co-Coach of the Year alongside Graham Craig of Valdosta State. Nobles had his most successful season at the helm with a 9-1 overall record in the regular season. The Argos had spent the majority of the season as the No. 3 team in the country and earned the No. 2 seed in Super Region Two for the NCAA postseason.
In the All-GSC selections, the Argos had 12 first team members, including five offensive players and seven defensive players. The team also had nine second team selections with five on offense, three on defense and one on special teams.
