PENSACOLA, Fla. – The award season continues for the University of West Florida football team with several players earning D2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Super Region Two honors.
Highlighting the awards was
Marcus Stokes being named the D2CCA Super Region Two Offensive Player of the Year. The redshirt sophomore was one of the nation's top quarterbacks this season, passing for 3,297 yards with 30 touchdowns and 10 rushing scores. He ranked first in the GSC in passing yards and touchdowns as well as total offense (3,664). Stokes became just the second player in team history to throw for over 3,000 yards in a season. He was also named a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy.
Joining Stokes as a First Team All-Region selection is
Jake Robinette,
Issiah Walker,
Corey Scott,
Ja'Kobe Clinton and
Chester Fearon.
Walker Robinson received second team honors.
Robinette was a key contributor in the run blocking for the Argos as a tight end, but he also established himself in the passing game this season. The redshirt junior caught 13 passes for 199 yards and four touchdowns.
Walker started all 12 games for the Argos at left tackle. As a team UWF only allowed 13 sacks all season. They also helped pave the way for a rushing attack that averaged 181 yards per game.
Scott led the team in receptions with 63 going for 1,018 yards receiving which was fifth best in the country. He averaged 84 yards per game and scored four touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball Clinton was a playmaker all year for the Argos. He was named the GSC Defensive Player of the Year after making 78 tackles with seven sacks and 19 tackles for loss.
Clinton also had two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and seven pass break ups.
Fearon led the Argos with five interceptions coming from the safety position. He also added 32 tackles and three pass break ups. Fearon is tied for seventh in NCAA DII for interceptions.
Robinson was the tackles leader for UWF from the middle linebacker spot. The senior made 85 tackles (46 solo & 39 assists). He had eight tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks to go along with two interceptions, three pass break ups and six quarterback hurries.
The Argos advanced to the second round of the NCAA DII playoffs, finishing with a 10-2 season record.
