PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida Argonauts (19-9, 15-7 Gulf South) put on a dominant performance Saturday night, securing an 88-66 victory over Auburn University at Montgomery (12-15, 10-12 Gulf South) at the UWF Field House.
West Florida came out strong, outscoring AUM 24-14 in the first quarter and following up with an explosive 27-point second quarter to take a commanding 51-26 lead at halftime. Though AUM fought back with a 22-point third quarter, UWF held firm in the fourth, sealing the win with another 24-point effort.
The Argonauts showcased their depth, with 40 points coming off the bench. Liv Becker led UWF with 19 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting, including two three-pointers. Haidyn Pitsch had a double-double performance, tallying 16 points and 10 rebounds while dishing out five assists. Bella Green was a force on the glass, securing a game-high 17 rebounds to go along with 13 points.
AUM was led by Allasha Dudley, who scored 17 points, while Carrington Jones and Samya Brooks each added 12. However, AUM struggled with efficiency, shooting just 34.2% from the field compared to UWF's 46.9%.
The Argos dominated the rebounding battle, grabbing 53 boards compared to AUM's 38, and moved the ball well with 23 assists on 30 field goals. Their defense also forced 14 turnovers, limiting AUM's offensive rhythm.
UWF will return to action in the first round of the The 2025 Truist Gulf South Conference Women's Basketball Championship against Valdosta State on March 4. The Argos will host the Lady Blazers and tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
