Argos End Season in Tough Battle at NCAA Tournament

JACKSON, Tenn. – For the first time since 2019, the West Florida Argonauts found themselves back in the NCAA Tournament. Though their return was met with heartbreak, the fight they showed in their 70-56 loss to No. 2 seed Embry-Riddle in Friday night's first-round matchup was a testament to their resilience.

The Argonauts, who finished their season at 20-12, refused to back down despite a slow start. Trailing by 11 after the first quarter, West Florida clawed back, outscoring Embry-Riddle 14-9 in the second to cut the deficit to just six at halftime. Haidyn Pitsch shot a last second three to end the first half as the Argos went into the locker room. Rylie Stephens left everything on the court, leading the charge with 18 points and 10 rebounds, her relentless effort keeping the Argos within striking distance.

A surge in the fourth quarter saw West Florida momentarily seize momentum, but Embry-Riddle responded with poise. Tournament-tested and battle-hardened, the Eagles pulled away late behind Kailey Turpening's game-high 23 points.

For the seniors, this game was more than just another contest—it was the culmination of years of dedication, sacrifice, and the dream of returning West Florida to the national stage. Players like Delaney Trushel, who battled through a tough night but still contributed 10 points and three steals, and Bella Green, whose defensive grit kept the Argos alive, leave behind a legacy of determination and pride.

Though the final buzzer signaled the end of the season, it did not mark the end of what this team has built.
