Women’s Tennis Earns Third Straight Ranked Win

No. 10 Argos Outlast No. 15 Mississippi College 4-3

PENSACOLA, Fla. - No. 10 West Florida women's tennis (11-6, 5-2 GSC) earned its third consecutive ranked win with a crucial 4-3 result over No. 15 Mississippi College (12-4, 2-1 GSC) at Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on Saturday. The Argos avenged their loss to the Lady Choctaws by the same score last year in the GSC Quarterfinals to end their 2024 season, making this the fifth straight matchup between these squads that has come down to a deciding seventh point in singles. With the win, the Argos improved their all-time record over MC to 14-1.

Aline Midori Da Silva and Guadalupe Martinez got things started with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Katharina Weber and Ricio Martinez, before the No. 31-ranked doubles pairing in DII in Emma Roberts and Jules De Mata knocked off No. 5 Carlota Verdu and Sandra Recuenco 6-3 to knot things up. On the middle court, Luiza Daud and Nathalia Mossambani dug deep and pulled out a narrow 7-6 (7-5) decision over Alizee Ripolles and Anna Hudson to clinch doubles, a crucial result to the final outcome.

The Lady Choctaws weren't going away, as Hudson won at the bottom of the lineup 6-0, 6-3 over Alberte Joergensen and No. 45 Ricio Martinez won on court two 6-3, 7-5 over Recuenco to take the lead. In the lone ranked matchup, No. 36 Verdu pulled out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 victory over No. 73 Roberts. Guadalupe Martinez gave her team the lead back on court four with a comeback 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 final over Weber, but one court up, De Mata tied the match back with a win in almost the same fashion, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, in an upset of No. 29 Midori Da Silva. It all came down to court five between Mossambani and Ripolles, and the senior out of Maringa, Brazil, delivered with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory to clinch the match for the Blue and Green.

After three matches played this week, the Argonauts have only one match to prepare for next week, a 1 pm duel at No. 24 Auburn Montgomery on Wednesday, April 2.
