UWF Falls to Valdosta on Walk Off Homerun

VALDOSTA, Ga. – A ninth inning walk off home run downed the UWF baseball team, 9-6 on Friday night in a pivotal game against Valdosta State.

West Florida was the first team on the board and built a 5-1 early lead after scoring four runs in the second inning. Brantley Willis hit his fourth homerun of the year with a two-run shot to give the Argos a 3-1 lead. Three batters later Alex Urias had an RBI single to score Dom Presto. Urias then scored when Brett Rowell grounded out to second.

Valdosta scored five unanswered runs between the fifth and eighth innings to take a one run lead, but Cade Easterbrook answered with the tying run in the ninth on a solo homerun.
Orlando Pena hit the game-winning homer for the Blazers on a 3-2 count.

Grant Adams threw just over six innings in the start for the Argos, striking out three and allowing five runs on six hits. Blake Thomas, Chase Stanhope and Willis all saw action on the mound in relief.

Friday's loss gave Valdosta a two-game lead over the Argos in the Gulf South Conference Standings. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon CT. It's the final series of the regular season for both squads.
