PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Argos blew out the competition at the Argonaut Invitational on Tuesday, shooting a 12-under in the final round to win the tournament by nine strokes at 34-under par.

In addition to the win, the Argos made history. The 34-under par was tied for the lowest team score over 54 holes in program history. The previous best was at The Matlock Collegiate Classic during the 2016-2017 season. The second round 16-under was also a top five mark for lowest score in a single round in team history.

Heading into the day UWF was down two strokes to then first place team Georgia Southwestern who was at -24, but the Argos would not be denied on their home course both as a team and individually.

West Florida had the top three individual finishers and placed six golfers in the top 15 positions.

Per Ekelund won the individual title with a score of 200 (-16). Ekelund had a nearly perfect tournament posting only two bogeys over the 54 holes. Ironically, the sophomore had a putt lip out for bogey on No. 18 to close out the tournament. But Ekelund's impressive play over the two days paced the field, winning by six strokes.

Coming in behind Ekelund was Trey Rouse and Fabian Wennerlof tied for second at 10-under. Rouse was playing as an individual and had the best round of his UWF career. Rouse closed out with a two-under on Tuesday. Wennerlof also had his best tournament of the season and one of the best of his collegiate career. His five-under in the final round was tied for best on the team.

In total, seven Argos shot under par in the final round and there were 18 rounds under par across the whole tournament for UWF players.

West Florida will head to the Gulf South Conference Championships on Thurs., April 17 through Sat., April 19. The team is looking for its third straight GSC title.
