PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UWF baseball team scored 10 unanswered runs after being down 4-1 to defeat Columbus State 12-4 on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup.
Columbus State scored four runs in the second inning, but that's all the team could produce as the Argos pitching and defense slowed the Cougars down. UWF only gave up two hits after the second inning. Relief pitchers
Chase Scott and
Garrett Brewer each came in for two innings of action and gave up no hits and no runs. Starting pitcher
Grant Adams earned his sixth win of the season and went five innings.
While the UWF defense turned up the pressure the Argos bats got going in the bottom of the second led by
Brett Rowell and
Dom Presto. Rowell was 4-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored. Presto had three hits on three at bats while driving in two runs and scoring three runs. Both players scored the final two runs for the Argos with solo homeruns in the seventh inning.
UWF finished with 13 hits on 33 at bats.
The Argos are 8-6 this season in non-conference games and have just one more left this season when the team hosts Spring Hill on April 15.
This weekend UWF will host West Alabama starting at 5 p.m. on Friday followed by a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m.
