PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 2 seed University of West Florida men's tennis team ended their season in the regional final match against No. 3 seed Barry University, falling 4-1.
West Florida started off strong, taking the doubles point after No. 3 duo of
Sebastian Sotelo and
Tomas Leston defeated Yan Kodjoed and Riccardo Trione at 6-3. The No. 2 matchups secured the point for the Argos.
Miguel Cabrera and
Bernardo Costa took their match 6-4 over Gabriele Felline and Tim Riedel.
The singles play put Barry up 2-1 after the Argos dropped No. 6 and No. 5 singles, respectively. The rest of play were close matchups with No. 1 singles finishing their first set as the rest were entering their third.
Sebastian Rondon at No. 2 fell in his first set 2-6 before coming back to take set two at 6-1, but ultimately lost in the third at 4-6. The victory came for Barry on court three where Kodjoed defeated
Diego Duran 7-5 in the third set.
The Argos complete their season at the NCAA DII South Regional and finish with a 24-3 record on the year.
