No. 13 UWF Baseball’s Season Ends In Tampa With Super Regional Loss

Argos lose 9-4 to Spartans in Game Two

TAMPA, Fla. – No. 13/20 UWF Baseball's exciting postseason run came to an end Friday at the hands of the No. 1/1 Tampa Spartans in a 9-4 game two Super Regional loss. 
 
UWF entered the game needing a win to push the weekend series to a third game Saturday, but were unable to regroup after falling behind early.
 
The Argos fell down 0-7 in the first three innings as the Spartans capitalized on multiple extra base hits against starting pitcher Dalton Neuschwander, including a two-run home run in the first. An RBI single and an error scored three more runs in the second, and solo home run combined with an RBI double in the third scored two more. 
 
Both teams were held without another run for the next three innings, and the Argos managed to strand multiple Tampa runners in scoring position. The finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with an Alex Urias single and an RBI single from Brett Rowell
 
Up 7-1, the Spartans responded with a walk, a single, and a two-RBI triple to go up 9-1. The Argos had their most prolific inning of the game in the bottom of the seventh, securing five hits and three runs. The Argos hit three RBI singles, starting with Dom Presto scoring Jadon Fryman. Cade Easterbrook scored Ben Maskin on a hit through second base, and Tanner Taylor scored Presto with two outs.
 
UWF loaded the bases with a Rowell single and had the tying run on deck in the seventh, but a strikeout looking ended the inning and got Tampa out of the jam.
 
Both teams went down in order in the eighth and Tampa only managed a walked batter in the ninth. UWF was down to its final three outs and went down in order, sending Tampa to the DII National Championship in Cary, N.C. and ending the season for the Argos. 
 
The Argos end the year 36-21 with a regional win at Florida Southern, their first super regional appearance in program history, and the best overall record in the Gulf South Conference.
