Three Homeruns Help Lift Argos Over Valdosta

OXFORD, Ala.Brett Rowell's three run homer in the fifth inning awakened the Argos offense leading to 11 unanswered runs and a 15-8 win over Valdosta in the second game of the Gulf South Conference Championship.

Rowell led the UWF hitters with three hits, six RBIs and three runs scored. The Argos totaled 16 hits and 15 RBIs. Five different players had multiple hits for UWF. Dom Presto and Jadon Fryman joined Rowell with homeruns. Presto had four RBIs and Fryman added three.

Fryman's two-run shot in the first inning tied the game at 2-2 but Valdosta scored four runs over the next two innings to take a 6-2 lead. Presto then homered in the fourth inning to cut the score to 6-4.

After the Blazers scored two additional runs in the fifth it was all Argos from there on out.

Rowell's homer cut the deficit to one run and then in the seventh inning it was Rowell's RBI single that tied the game at 8-8.

Between the fifth and eighth inning the Argos produced 11 hits, including a five hit – five run eighth inning. Presto's two RBI single to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning gave West Florida the lead for good.

Grant Adams got the start on the mound and went two innings before Chase Stanhope came in relief for two innings of his own. Dalton Neuschwander shut down the Valdosta bats which were connecting in the first four innings. Neuschwander earned the win while allowing one hit and no runs. He struck out four.

West Florida will continue on in the GSC Championship to play Monday around 4 p.m. against the winner of the Montevallo vs West Alabama game.
