Argos Down No. 7 in Denver; Open Weekend 2-0

Pensacola, Fla. - The University of West Florida volleyball team swept No. 7 Ferris State and Regis on Friday afternoon at the Denver Premier Challenge, improving to 5-1 on the season. With a 2-0 record in this weekend's tournament, the Argonauts enter the gold bracket for the fourth time in program history, and sweep both opponents on day one for the first time.
 
The Argos started the weekend off with a statement 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) win over No. 7 Ferris State. This marks West Florida's first win over Ferris State. The Argonauts controlled the match from start to finish, outhitting the Bulldogs .221 to .157 and keeping pressure on both sides of the net. The victory marked the first ranked win for West Florida in 2025.
 
Kumara Flanagain led the way with 12 kills on an efficient .435 hitting percentage, while setter Gabi Moulton dished out 26 assists to go along with six kills of her own. Emily Breazeale added eight kills and two service aces to the offensive effort, and Aniston Cochran chipped in six kills. Defensively, the Argos were defensively anchored by GSC Defensive Player of the Week Madalyn Mire, who tallied a team-high 14 digs, while Moulton and Flanagain combined for six blocks at the net.
 
The Argos then closed out Friday with a sweep against host Regis (25-15, 25-18, 25-19) to cap a 2-0 day at the Regis University Fieldhouse. The Argonauts (5-1) were dominant at the net, hitting an impressive .418 as a team while limiting the Rangers to just a .192 mark.
 
UWF's attack was balanced throughout, with four players reaching double-digit kills. Cochran paced the team with 12 kills on a .550 clip, while Ana Colon matched her with 12 kills and a .556 percentage. Flanagain was nearly unstoppable with 11 kills on .600 hitting, and Magdalena Vongkasemsiri provided a spark with seven kills at .500. Moulton orchestrated the offense with 38 assists and added four kills of her own, while Mire anchored the defense with 11 digs.
