Argos Take Down PCC

Pensacola, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's soccer team had their home opener Tuesday night, with a shoutout against Pensacola Christian College 5-0. The Argonauts controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, spending the majority of the match in their opponent's half and showcasing the depth of their roster.

The scoring started early, with UWF making an immediate statement just four minutes into the match. Senior forward Kendrick found the back of the net after a clean setup from Callum Edwards, putting the Argos up 1-0 and setting the tone for the rest of the night.

Callum turned from provider to goal scorer in the 27th minute, finishing off a well-placed assist from Rafael Esteves to double the Argonauts' lead. UWF maintained pressure throughout the half, generating multiple chances and keeping PCC pinned back defensively.

The second half saw no let-up from the Argonauts. In the 68th minute, Callum struck again this time on a breakaway slicing through defenders and slotting it past the keeper for his second goal of the night, making 3-0.

Just minutes later in the 71st, Kendrick turned provider again, assisting Ismael Castillo who smashed home the fourth goal. Castillo wasn't done yet, adding a second tally in the 76th minute to cap off the scoring and secure the 5-0 victory.

With the match comfortably in hand, head coach Bill Elliott utilized the opportunity to rotate his squad, giving valuable minutes to many of the younger players and players on the bench on the team.

"The guys are working hard and training day in and day out to make the team better," Elliott said postgame. "It was nice to get some of the newer faces on the field tonight."

The win improves UWF's record and builds early momentum in the season as they look ahead to more challenging matchups this weekend. The Argos next match with be an Argo Ambush at home against Lee university on October 3, 2025 at 7:30 p.m.
