UWF Softball Earns Two Road Wins Over Nova Southeastern to Open Season

Argos take game one 6-2, fight tight battle in game two to win 3-2

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – UWF Softball is coming away from their opening day with two big road wins over the Nova Southeastern Sharks in their home stadium.

UWF earned their first victory of the season in a 6-2 win to start the doubleheader, with Haley Guffey (1-0) picking up her first win of the season. Hannah Harper started in the circle in game two, picking up a 3-2 win in a close game. She was aided by the pitching efforts of freshman Brianna Adams, who pitched four innings and added four strikeouts.

In both games the Argos came back from being down 1-2 early to take the lead and secure victories. The Argos also kick a three-game losing streak to the Sharks dating back to 2020. They last beat the Sharks in Fort Lauderdale in February 2018 with a 5-0 road win.

Individual Highlights:

Star senior Emma Brice had an impressive day, batting .500 with three hits, two runs, and two doubles in the combined two games.

Jessie Baughan homered in game one and added an RBI. Nicole Mergen also added a home run, a hit, and three RBI in her first action of the season, putting the Argos up big in game one. Senior Olivia Keith made the most of both her at-bats on the day, gaining two hits and two runs, as well as an RBI-triple.
