Argos Sweep Stetson to Extend Winning Streak

DELAND, Fla. — The University of West Florida volleyball team swept Stetson 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-13) on Friday at Insight Credit Union Arena. The Argonauts extended their winning streak to four matches with the victory.

West Florida opened the first set with a Karyna Werley ace and a block from Delaney Hanowell and Kumara Flanagain for a 2-0 lead. After the teams traded points early, the Argonauts built a 13-9 advantage behind contributions from Madison Joyner, Aniston Cochran, Talya Sampson and Hanowell. Stetson cut the lead to 16-15, but West Florida remained in front with kills from Lizzy Kwiatkowski and Emily Breazeale. Kwiatkowski's ace brought up set point at 24-20 before Breazeale closed the set with a kill.

Stetson took a 5-3 lead in the second set before West Florida answered with three straight points on a Werley kill, a Stetson attack error and a Joyner ace. Tied at 8-8, the Argonauts pulled ahead with kills from Flanagain and Breazeale to build a 14-9 lead. Stetson later pulled within 20-18, but two Hanowell kills and another from Flanagain kept West Florida ahead. Cochran added the final two points to finish the set, 25-20.

The Argonauts opened the third set with a Gabi Moulton ace and kills from Flanagain and Sampson for a 3-0 lead. Stetson stayed within reach and cut the margin to 14-12 before West Florida went on a nine-point run to take control. Kwiatkowski served two aces during the stretch, while Cochran and Breazeale combined for a block and Breazeale and Moulton added kills. After a Stetson point, Moulton's kill brought up match point, and Kendra Howse finished the sweep with a kill from Kwiatkowski.

UWF hit .327 as a team with 53 kills, led by Breazeale's 13 kills and .391 hitting percentage. Breazeale added five digs to her team-high 13 kills, while Flanagain finished with 10 kills and hit .381. Kwiatkowski recorded 20 assists, three aces and eight digs.
