CLINTON, Miss. – The University of West Florida men's basketball team led from start to finish Wednesday night in an 83-64 road victory over Mississippi College at A.E. Wood Coliseum. With the win, the Argonauts improve to 19-6 overall and 12-5 in GSC play.
Elijah Wyche led West Florida with 15 points, knocking down 8-of-10 free throws and adding seven rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Aric Demings and
Christian Monroe each contributed 14 points, with Demings adding four assists and Monroe knocking down 2 triples. Inside,
Tim Hall Jr. crashed the glass with 15 rebounds to go along with eight points and a block.
The Argonauts set the tone early, opening the game on a 7-0 run and pushing the lead to double digits less than four minutes in. The Argonauts shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 72.7 percent from three-point range in the first half, building a 42-30 advantage at the break.
West Florida maintained its cushion throughout the second half, extending the lead to as many as 26 points. The Argos finished the night shooting 49.2 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three while scoring 32 points in the paint and 18 second-chance points.
The UWF bench added 29 points in the victory, highlighted by 11 from
Julius Jay King and eight from
Colby McAllister. UWF outrebounded Mississippi College 39-27 and held the Choctaws to 37.9 percent shooting and just 25 percent from three-point range.
The Argonauts continue their road stretch on Saturday, February 7, where they will face Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m. Live stats and broadcast will be available on GoArgos.com.
