INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 4 University of West Florida men's tennis team earned a statement victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 3 Flagler College, 4-2, at Farmer's Bank Fieldhouse to advance to the finals of the ITA Men's National Team Indoor Championships. This marks the Argos second appearance in the championship match in two years, with West Florida taking home the title of champions last year.
The Argonauts (4-0) opened the match by securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon picked up a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Vicente Couto and Goncalo Quintela mirrored that scoreline with a 6-4 win at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match was left unfinished with the teams tied at 5-5.
In singles play, UWF claimed three crucial points to seal the match. Rondon delivered a gritty performance at No. 1 singles, battling through a three-set thriller with numerous tie breakers to secure the point. Duran followed with a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 7-6, earning a key win over Simon Malis.
Couto clinched the decisive fourth point for the Argonauts at No. 5 singles with a commanding 6-4, 6-4 win, ensuring the 4-2 team victory.
Flagler (3-1) earned its points at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, but the Argonauts' depth and composure in tight moments proved to be the difference in the top-five matchup.
