UWF Run-Rules Christian Brothers to Start Off Series

PENSACOLA, Fla. — West Florida secured a commanding 10-0 victory over Christian Brothers on Friday at Jim Spooner Field. West Florida scored ten runs on ten hits while holding Christian Brothers scoreless over seven innings.

The Argos took an early lead in the first inning when Trent Kelly walked and advanced to third on a single by Zack Stokes. Gustavo Mendez then reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Kelly to score, putting West Florida ahead 1-0 after the first inning.

In the third inning, the Argos expanded the lead significantly. Stokes bunted for a single, and Mendez followed with another single. Tanner Taylor reached on an error, allowing Stokes to score. A wild pitch advanced the runners before Alex Urias walked. Jake Cooper's sacrifice fly brought in Mendez, and then Andrew Walton doubled to drive in Taylor and Urias, bringing the score to 5-0 by the end of the third inning.

West Florida added another run in the fifth inning when Walton walked and scored on a single by Urias, increasing the lead to 6-0.

The seventh inning saw West Florida solidify its victory as Mendez and William Lybrook both singled, and Taylor's sacrifice bunt advanced them. Gann Nobles singled, scoring Mendez, and subsequent wild pitches allowed Lybrook and Urias to score. Jay Henderson capped the inning with an RBI single, bringing the final tally to 10-0.

Colton Dorsey was effective on the mound, pitching five innings with seven strikeouts, allowing no earned runs, and picking up the win. 

UWF will finish out the series against Christian Brothers with a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1:00 PM at Jim Spooner Field.
