CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – There were highs and lows for UWF Softball (9-1) in the team's final day in Chattanooga.
The Argos earned a dominant 10-0 run rule win over The University of Virginia – Wise but saw their perfect start to the 2026 season come to an end in an 8-9 loss to Young Harris College in extra innings this afternoon. They finish the weekend 3-1 at the Chattanooga Invitational.
UWF enjoyed a seven-run burst in the first inning of game one against UVA-Wise on the way to the run rule. The runs were sporadic against Young Harris, but the team's combined batting average on the day was .403 for another dominant day at the plate despite the loss.
The Argos also hit seven combined doubles in the win and loss along with two home runs and nine stolen bases.
Individual Highlights:
Brianna Adams got her second win of the season in circle along with the first shutout of her young career as an Argo. The Graceville, FL native pitched four innings and allowed just two hits to go along with four K's.
Kamila Vicente earned an inning against the Cavaliers and dominated with her opportunity, recording all three outs in the final inning on strikeouts.
Jessie Baughan had an impressive game against Young Harris, crushing a home run and a double against the mountain lions along with two RBI and two runs. Her 1.538 OPS and .478 batting average leads UWF.
Emma Brice went 3-7 with two doubles and an RBI, along with a team-leading four runs on the day.
Hannah Harper also sailed her second home run of the season on her way to also going 3-7 with two runs and an RBI.
Miranda Harmon earned two more runs today and continues to lead the Argos as a freshman with 13 on the year.
UWF 10, UVA Wise 0 / 5 innings
The first inning set the tone for the game, as the Argos put up seven runs in the first frame.
Miranda Harmon hit a single and scored on a
Meg Fountain RBI double. A passed ball allowed Fountain to score and put Harper in scoring position. She then scored on a
Nicole Mergen RBI single.
Abigail Pippen doubled to right field to score Mergen and bring Brice to third base. An
Olivia Keith RBI single brought in Brice. Finally,
Angelia Discenza stole third and scored on a throwing error. In all, the Argos totaled 7 hits and 7 runs and benefitted from three errors in the inning.
Brianna Adams continued to deal and held a zero on the board for UVA Wise, and the score remained 7-0 UWF till the third inning. Keith hit another RBI single to score Brice and qualify for the run rule.
In the fourth, Harper added a solo home run to center field to advance the lead to 9-0. A wild pitch scored
Gabrielle Luna to make it 10-0, and Vicente closed out the inning with three strikeouts to secure the run rule.
UWF 8, Young Harris 9 / 8 innings
UWF opened up just like they had in most games so far this season, starting strong at the plate. Through the first two innings, UWF scored four runs starting with a wild pitch to score Harmon in the first. In the second, Baughan scored Brice on a double to deep center, and Baughan was scored by
Kyndal Cornelius on an RBI single to shortstop. A Mountain Lion error allowed
Bella Holliday to score unearned.
Young Harris responded by controlling the net two innings. They added a solo home run to deep left followed by an RBI single in the second. In the third inning, another solo home run and a two RBI double gave YHC the 4-5 lead.
Baughan wasted no time tying it up at five all, hitting a solo home run to center field. In the fifth, UWF took the lead on several hits leading to a
Meg Fountain run. A fielding error allowed Discenza to score, followed by solid base running from Brice who stole home.
UWF entered the fifth with an 8-5 lead but could not keep it as Young Harris responded yet again. The Mountain Lions recorded four hits including two RBI singles and added a sac-fly RBI and tied it up at 8-8.
UWF saw runners reach in the sixth and seventh but couldn't plate them. YHC was blanked in both innings, and the game went to extras. The International tiebreaker went into effect in the eighth, placing
Brianna Adams to pinch run at second. Two flyouts and a fielder's choice ended the Argo's chances in the top of the inning.
The Argos got two outs in the bottom of the inning, but a pinch hit single from the Mountain Lions brought their runner at second home, giving them the 8-9 upset win over UWF.
