PENSACOLA, Fla. — No. 13 West Florida (18-6, 7-4 GSC) lost a doubleheader against The University of Alabama in Huntsville (21-9, 7-4 GSC) at the UWF Softball Complex on Friday, with losses of 1-6 and 1–10.
The Chargers secure the series with the pair of wins and are temporarily tied for second in the conference with multiple GSC teams yet to play this weekend.
Individual Highlights:
Angelia Discenza hit her first home run of the season in game two, a solo blast to right center field.
Freshman
Brianna Adams entered for relief innings in game two, and worked through several earned runs to finish the game with five strikeouts in just 2.2 innings a season high.
**#13 UWF 1, UAH 6:**
In the first game, West Florida started strong, taking an early lead in the first inning.
Miranda Harmon singled up the middle and advanced to third on a wild pitch, allowing
Nicole Mergen's groundout to the pitcher to bring Harmon home for a 1–0 lead.
However, Alabama Huntsville quickly responded, scoring two runs in the second inning with Mia Brown walking and advancing to third on a double by Kylee Smith. Allie Yeary's single brought Brown home, followed by Jill Cockrell's single that scored Smith, putting Alabama Huntsville ahead 2–1.
The Chargers extended their lead in the third inning with a double by Alexa Douthitt, who scored on a single by Brown, increasing the score to 3–1. In the sixth inning, Alabama Huntsville capitalized on errors to score three unearned runs, concluding the game at 6–1.
**#13 UWF 1, UAH 10:**
In the second game, Alabama Huntsville struck first in the first inning with a two-RBI single from Douthitt, scoring Cockrell and Slaten for a 2–0 lead. The Chargers continued to build their lead, scoring two more runs in the third inning and four in the fourth, resulting in an 8–0 score by the end of the fourth inning.
West Florida managed to get on the board in the fifth inning with
Angelia Discenza hitting a solo home run to left center, making it 8–1. However, Alabama Huntsville added two more runs in the sixth inning, finishing the game with a run rule and a final score of 10–1.
