PENSACOLA, Fla. — The No. 2 University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated Southern Arkansas 6-1 on Thursday. The Argonauts secured the win by claiming five singles matches and sweeping the doubles.
West Florida claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Carlota Verdu and
Sandra Recuenco secured a 7-5 win over Roksana Kokocha and Taylor Conway at No. 1 doubles, while
Guadalupe Martinez and
Aline Midori Da Silva defeated Emilie Senepart and Jolina Mass 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. The match at No. 3 doubles between Senepart, Victoria Perez, and
Sophie Smith,
Kylie Kochis remained unfinished.
In singles play, West Florida extended its lead with Alberte Jorgensen's 6-2, 6-4 victory over Conway at No. 4 singles, followed by Smith's 6-0, 6-0 win against Perez at No. 5 singles. Martinez triumphed over Isabella Lazzerini at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, to add another point for West Florida.
Aline Midori Da Silva further solidified West Florida's dominance with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kokocha at No. 2 singles. The Muleriders managed a point at No. 1 singles where Mass fought back to win 0-6, 6-2, 7-6(9) against Recuenco. However, West Florida closed out the match with Kochis at No. 6 singles, which was left unfinished.
