PENSACOLA, Fla. —
Sandra Recuenco has been named the GSC Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Recuenco played a key role in the No. 2 Argonauts' strong performance at the GSC/Lone Star Conference Crossover in Tyler, Texas, helping West Florida secure victories over No. 20 UT Tyler, Cameron, and No. 12 Midwestern State.
Competing at the No. 2 singles position, Recuenco went undefeated during the weekend. She opened the event with a straight-set victory over UT Tyler's Maria Antonio Ortega, winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) as part of a 6-1 team win.
Recuenco followed with a dramatic three-set comeback victory against Cameron's Adel Ismagulova, rallying from a first-set loss to claim a 1-6, 7-5, 11-9 win in a match tiebreak.
She closed the weekend with another dominant performance in West Florida's 6-1 win over No. 12 Midwestern State, defeating Emilia Gyorgy 6-0, 6-1
Recuenco also contributed in doubles play, partnering with Carlota Verdu to secure a 6-0 win at the No. 1 doubles position against UT Tyler.
