MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The No. 2 University of West Florida women's tennis team (7-4) defeated the University of Montevallo (2-2) 6-1 on Friday at the Tennis Court Complex. The Argonauts swept the doubles matches and claimed five of six singles matches to secure the victory.
West Florida secured the doubles point with a series of decisive victories, beginning with Aline Midori Da Silv and
Guadalupe Martinez's 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Sophia Baillos and Latizia Bojara.
Kylie Kochis and
Sophie Smith followed suit at No. 3 doubles, defeating Anna Nevada Henrikse and Ella De Jesus 6-3. The sweep was completed by #22
Carlota Verdu and
Sandra Recuenco, who triumphed 6-4 at No. 1 doubles against Klara Podskubkova and Claire Jaramba.
In singles, West Florida extended its dominance as #46 Recuenco dispatched Jaramba 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Martinez added another point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Baillos at No. 3 singles. Alberte Jorgensen continued the run at No. 4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-2 against Henrikse.
Kochis secured a straight-sets win at No. 5 singles, overcoming Andrea Cano 6-0, 6-2. Smith wrapped up the singles matches for West Florida with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over De Jesus at No. 6 singles. Despite a tough battle, #4 Verdu fell to Podskubkova 5-7, 6-1, 2-6 at No. 1 singles, marking the only singles loss for the Argonauts in a commanding overall performance.
