NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 12 West Florida (18-4, 7-2) fell 6-5 to Trevecca Nazarene (6-7, 2-7) in a close matchup on Saturday at the Trojan Softball Complex.
The Argonauts secured three runs in the third inning to come back from being down three, and secured a 5-3 lead in the fifth inning, but were unable to maintain the lead as the Trojans rallied with three runs in the seventh, capped by a dramatic walk-off home run from Trevecca Nazarene.
UWF still earned a series win with two wins in the doubleheader against the Trojans yesterday. They have won their first two series against the Trojans since TNU joined the GSC in 2025.
Individual Highlights:
Nevaeh Hayes went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBI to take the lead in the fifth inning.
Nicole Mergen also knocked another extra base hit with a double today, on her way to going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Freshmen
Miranda Harmon and
Meg Fountain also generated four total hits, both going 2-for-4 on the day. Harmon earned another run and Fountain scored an RBI.
**#12 UWF 5, TNU 6:**
Haley Guffey started in the circle for UWF. Trevecca Nazarene took an early lead in the first inning with a solo homer by Shay Hollingsworth, followed by a two-run home run from Annalise Mecklenburg, making it 3-0.
Brianna Adams came in to relieve Guffey for the Argos the rest of the way.
West Florida responded in the third inning.
Bella Holliday and
Miranda Harmon singled, setting up
Meg Fountain, who drove in Holliday. Harmon then scored on a fielder's choice by
Hannah Harper, and
Nicole Mergen's double brought Harper home, tying the game at 3-3.
In the fifth inning, the Argonauts took the lead. Fountain singled and advanced on a wild pitch. Mergen singled, then
Alex Whitfield pinch ran and scored along with
Jessie Baughan on
Nevaeh Hayes' double, aided by a throwing error. The Argonauts led 5-3.
The Trojans mounted a comeback in the seventh inning. A solo home run by Sarah Kinderdine and a two-run homer by Bailey Goad secured the win for the home team, ending the game at 6-5, thanks to the walk-off home run heroics. In all, the Argos left six runners on base in a one-run game.
