PENSACOLA, Fla. — The No. 1 University of West Florida men's tennis team defeated Valdosta State University 7-0 on Friday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. The Argonauts swept all six singles matches and secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.
West Florida secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At No. 1 doubles,
Sebastian Rondon and
Diego Duran defeated Valdosta's Wilson Igbinovia and Emile Delporte, 6-3. The No. 3 doubles match was won by default, giving
Vicente Couto and
Mateo Martinez the point. The match at No. 2 doubles, featuring
Rafael Sabio and
Goncalo Quintela against Yohann Meunier and Wilson Igbinovia, was left unfinished at 3-3.
In singles play, West Florida dominated with a clean sweep of all six matches.
Diego Duran quickly added a point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Wilson Igbinovia at No. 2 singles.
Rafael Sabio extended the lead by winning by default at No. 5 singles, putting the Argonauts up 3-0.
Mark Neyelov clinched the match at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Yohann Meunier.
Vicente Couto continued the momentum with a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Emile Delporte.
Sebastian Rondon then defeated Jerome Iaconi 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Finally,
Goncalo Quintela secured the sweep with a win by default at No. 6 singles. The final dual score was 7-0 in favor of West Florida.
