Strong Hitting Leads to Road Win Over UWA

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — West Florida (31-8, 16-6 GSC) claimed a 13-8 victory over the University of West Alabama (27-9-1, 16-6 GSC) on Friday. UWF notched 14 hits, including two home runs and two triples, to secure the win.

The Argos pulled away decisively in the sixth inning, capitalizing on multiple opportunities to extend its lead. Miranda Harmon and Angelia Discenza both drew walks before Hannah Harper's single loaded the bases. Nicole Mergen's fielder's choice brought in a run, and Abigail Pippen followed with an RBI single. Emma Brice then reached on a fielder's choice, advancing to second on a throwing error, which allowed two more runs to score, bringing the total to four in the inning.

Earlier in the game, Jessie Baughan's two-run homer in the third inning gave UWF a comfortable lead, building on the momentum set by Harper's two-RBI double in the first. The Argos maintained offensive pressure throughout, with Baughan contributing a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Meg Fountain homering in the seventh to further secure the lead.

Miranda Harmon recorded three hits and scored three runs, contributing significantly to her team's offensive efforts. Harper posted three hits and drove in three runs, including two doubles, showcasing her impact at the plate. Brice tallied three hits, including a triple, and added two RBIs, while also crossing the plate twice. Baughan hit a home run and collected three RBIs, highlighting her power-hitting capabilities.

Haley Guffey pitched a complete game, throwing 7 innings to pick up her 20th win of the season.

UWF moves to 31-8 and is 16-6 in the GSC.
