PENSACOLA, Fla. — The No. 2 University of West Florida women's tennis team defeated No. 17 Valdosta State 5-2 on Friday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. West Fla. secured the victory by winning five of the six singles matches, despite dropping the doubles point.

Valdosta State secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Carleigh Fay and Ivana Castillo Hurtado claimed a 7-6(2) victory over Guadalupe Martinez and Aline Midori Da Silva at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Kitti Nemeth and Carmelle Vial defeated Sophie Smith and Kylie Kochis, 6-4. West Fla. managed a win at No. 1 doubles, where Carlota Verdu and Sandra Recuenco overcame Milica Prokic and Lena Beckx, 6-4.

In singles play, West Fla. dominated, securing five victories to clinch the match. Alberte Jorgensen started the singles rally with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Carmelle Vial at No. 5 singles. Recuenco followed with a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Milica Prokic at No. 2 singles, and Da Silva added a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ivana Castillo Hurtado at No. 3 singles. The clinching point came from Verdu, who defeated Lena Beckx 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

Martinez extended West Florida's lead with a hard-fought 6-7(6), 7-6(8), 8-6 victory over Carleigh Fay at No. 4 singles. Valdosta secured its sole singles victory at No. 6 singles, where Kitti Nemeth overcame Kylie Kochis, 7-6(2), 6-2. The final dual score was 5-2 in favor of West Fla.
