No. 14 Softball Takes Game One vs Choctaws in Clinton Off Power Hitting

Pippen with four RBI, Argos with six extra base hits

CLINTON, Miss. — No. 14 West Florida (33-9, 18-7) secured a dominating offensive victory over Mississippi College (25-17-1, 15-10) with an 11–5 win on Friday. 
 
The Argos' bats accumulated 13 hits, including five doubles and a triple, effectively overpowering Mississippi College's five-hit effort in game 1 of the series.
 
Individual Highlights:
 
Abigail Pippen contributed significantly by driving in four runs while also collecting two hits, including a double and a triple. 
 
Angelia Discenza added to the offense with two hits, two runs scored, and two walks. Brice supported the scoring effort with three RBIs and two doubles in the game. Her 18 doubles on the season vault her into the top 10 in program history, tied with five other players. 
 
Haley Guffey (22-3) pitched a complete game for the Argonauts, throwing 7 innings while allowing 5 earned runs on 5 hits. She struck out 3 batters and walked just 1 during her 100-pitch outing, of which 64 were strikes.

The Choctaws took an early lead in the bottom of the first, capitalizing off an error, a walk, and a couple base hits to score a run
 
In the third inning, Emma Brice's double to left field drove in three runs, putting West Fla. ahead 3-1. Mississippi Col. responded in the fourth inning with four runs, including a two-run homer by Kate Rills, taking a 5-3 lead.
 
The Argonauts regained control in the fifth inning, scoring three runs with contributions from Nicole Mergen, Abigail Pippen, and Jessie Baughan. This performance gave them a 6-5 advantage. The sixth inning saw Pippen tripling to right center, bringing in three more runs, extending West Fla.'s lead to 9-5.
 
In the seventh inning, the Argonauts added two unearned runs, solidifying their lead at 11-5. West Fla. maintained its lead in the final innings, securing the win with a final score of 11-5.
