Kochis Earns GSC Freshman of the Year Honors; Many Argos Recognized with GSC Yearly Awards

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida women's tennis team has made a remarkable mark in the 2026 season, earning significant postseason honors from the Gulf South Conference.

The team has achieved a historic milestone by being ranked #1 in the country for the first time this season and currently holds the #3 spot nationally.

Kylie Kochis was named the GSC Freshman of the Year and to the All-GSC Second Team. Kochis posted a remarkable record of 17-4 in singles on courts four, five, and six, and 11-4 in doubles on courts two and three, earning her the prestigious Freshman of the Year title.

Carlota Verdu was named to the All-GSC First Team. Verdu is ranked as the #5 singles player in the country and forms part of the #5 doubles pair with Sandra Recuenco. Her season stats include an 11-9 singles record on court one and a 13-7 doubles record on court one.

Sandra Recuenco was also named to the All-GSC First Team. Recuenco, ranked #33 in singles nationally, contributed to the team's success with a 17-4 singles record across courts one to four and a 13-7 doubles record. She also partners with Verdu to form the #5 ranked doubles pair.

Guadalupe Martinez rounds out the All-GSC First Team Argos. Martinez is ranked #37 nationally in singles, finishing the season with a 15-6 singles record on courts three and four, and a 16-4 doubles record on courts one and two.

Aline Midori Da Silva was named to the All-GSC Second Team for the second consecutive year. Ranked #30 nationally in singles, Da Silva achieved a 15-6 singles record on courts two and three, alongside a 17-4 doubles record on the same courts.

 Finally, head men's and women's tennis coach Derrick Racine has been honored with his 15th career GSC Coach of the Year award.

The Argos enter the GSC Tournament this weekend as the 2-seed and will face off against 7-seed Delta State. The match is set for Thursday, April 23 at 2:00pm. Live stats will be available on GoArgos.com.
