PENSACOLA, Fla. — The University of West Florida punched their ticket to the NCAA National Championships on Tuesday with a win over 3-seed Rollins, 4-1 on Tuesday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. This marks UWF's first appearance in the NCAA National Championships since 2019.
West Florida dropped the doubles point to Rollins despite a victory at No. 1 doubles, where
Diego Duran and
Sebastian Rondon secured a 6-0 win over Pete Tran and Richard Stoiberer. The Tars claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 doubles, as Mo Anterist and Fabian Gusic defeated
Mark Neyelov and
Goncalo Quintela, 6-3, and at No. 3 doubles, where Nico de Giacomo and Lawson Prather overcame
Vicente Couto and
Rafael Sabio, 6-4.
In singles, West Florida responded strongly with a sweep, starting at No. 1 singles, where Rondon defeated Lawson Prather, 6-0, 6-2.
Goncalo Quintela extended the lead by achieving a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Pete Tran.
Rafael Sabio added another point at No. 5 singles with a 7-6, 7-5 win against Mo Anterist.
The clinching point came at No. 2 singles, where Duran engaged in a tense three-set match, ultimately prevailing 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(4) over Fabian Gusic.
